Our mission is to craft casual wardrobe essentials in 100% cotton to keep our customers cool and comfortable all day long.

At Manta Wear, we’re natural fiber clothing enthusiasts, and we’re not big on trends. We prefer timeless wardrobe basics that are just as beautiful and durable as they are comfortable, year after year. We strive to be planet-friendly, and people-friendly.

Everything we produce is made from 100% cotton, a sustainable, renewable, and biodegradable fiber. Cotton is also naturally hypoallergenic and is an eczema-friendly fabric, making it an excellent alternative for allergy-sufferers and people with skin sensitivities.

Our clothing is manufactured according to Fair Trade standards in a small batch factory in the highlands of Guatemala, by a family of Mayan ancestry.

Our Story

Manta Wear is a family-owned and operated clothing collection based in the United States. Our company, which is online only, was founded as a brick and mortar store in Ashland, Oregon in 1989. Our purpose-driven designs were originally created with yoga, tai chi and other health practitioners and enthusiasts in mind, based on the unique qualities of the 100% cotton Manta fabric they are made with.

On one of his many trips to Roatan, the original owner met a merchant aboard a single-engine island-hopper who showed him a small sample of this amazing fabric. Manta is created using an ancient Mayan weaving technique that, when washed, develops into a unique herringbone pattern that has some give to it. The subtly textured quality of the fabric also sits lightly on your skin, and allows your skin to breathe, so it feels soft and cool in any climate, and can be beautifully layered for warmth. This discovery led to seeking out the source of this wonder fabric, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Today, Manta Wear continues to be produced by the same family of Mayan ancestry, in a small batch factory located in the Highlands of Guatemala, and the company is owned by the Dockery family in Austin, Texas.
